Your hair looks great. Do what you need to do. I, for one, will be here whenever you get back. You’ve helped me so much and given me the info and insight that has made me a better mother to my trans son. And a better ally to the lbgtq community. Even if you never come back, you will always be a part of our story. Thank you. The guidance you provided last year for him to get a passport before the inauguration made all the difference. One example of your guidance. Go find peace. Hugs to you and xilo.
I was wondering where you went, which is weird because we don’t know each other. I followed you on instagram because I’m AuDHD and it’s nice seeing other neuroqueer people out in the world. That said, you don’t owe us anything and I’m glad you’re doing okay and continuing to journey while staying in one place. See you around, or not, either way thanks for being visible as a person with autism at a time when I needed people to identify with.
It’s so great to read that you’re doing okay. I have been wondering about y’all for the last few weeks and hoping that all was well. I truly hope that you both can find some peaceful solid ground.
It's odd, but you actually popped into my mind earlier this week. I was wondering where your travels had taken you two. I'm learning a lot about NM from another Substack writer, and it seems like a very cool place. Glad you and Xilo are finding happiness there. And thank you for sharing as you choose to. 😊
Silence and solitude in the woods is amazing!! Thank you for all you share, the way you make me ask harder questions and show up better for those around me. Here's to you guys both and the lives you're continually building. I love looking for the shift in perspective that's neither this or that, hooray for friends who helped you remember that!
I love your writing and I do hope you continue to post, but only when you want to. The people who care about you will always be happy to hear from you, no matter how long you're gone. Both of my kids and two other family members are trans, so I really appreciate your perspective on things; it has helped me better understand what they're going through. I hope you find a good balance that brings you peace and keeps you as connected as you want to be. :)
You're a truly fantastic writer, Flint. Your storytelling threads through and expands everything you do and I'm pleased to learn you've written another book and have many more you want to write. I've followed you and your journey for several years. You're probably the only substack author who I immediately dive into whenever you pop into my inbox. I know I'm in for a gorgeous long form piece that will resonate, take me on a journey and make me think deeply about the human experience. I hope you keep writing for yourself because that's a beautiful practice. And just know that anytime you want to share that there's an audience of people who will smile at seeing your name and know that it means a guaranteed quality reading experience.
Will look forward to catching your shares when they pop up. Have fun enjoying life and settling into your new home further.
I always think about the external pressure to keep on creating constantly. But, people seem to forget, the creativity comes from living a life and what that brings to the artist/ writer/ etc. and if a creative is constantly producing than they aren't getting to experience life, eventually staunching the creative well.
Appreciate your candor and vulnerability... and cheers to moderating online time. I, with no following, have also been trying to pull away from it more and more.
New Mexico is a magical place. I lived there for a while in the 80s and would love to go back again. Good to hear from you and sounds like you found a wonderful place to land.
I hope for so much healing for you and your husband in the land of enchantment. It is my birthplace and has a lot of power. Thank you for all you do. Gonna buy your book with precious teacher salary money because I believe in you and am excited to keep learning from you. Your existence is inspiring and your words fill my heart.
So good to see your face, and to read your words, and to know that you are well, and still thoughtful and still thought provoking, Flint. I send you warmest wishes, and hope that you and Xilo flourish in your new home state. ❤️
I trust you. Every relationship I’ve had in my life, be it flesh, virtual, long distance, blood or companion…has ended in leavings, reconnecting, readjusting, reinterpreting, pivoting. That’s a good word. That just means grief and love have to stretch. Across miles. And time.
Truman Capote said, “life separates us,” and that is no joke.
Beautifully written. Thanks for sharing these words--but most importantly--thanks for taking care of you and your husband first. Without caring for ourselves, we aren't serving anyone else well. Please only write as you are inspired, not to serve an algorithm. Others need to learn these lessons you articulated so well.

What if you only write and post on your own site instead of helping some other platform?
