What a beautifully written letter! As a mother, I can’t imagine reading this and not being moved. But, I also can’t imagine denying my kids their identify. Both my kids are amazing humans, not at all the people I envisioned they’d be (and not at all free of challenges), but still amazing. Perhaps more so in my eyes because they are growing in ways I didn’t expect and it’s awesome to witness. So, I guess I have a hard time imagining what kind of anger causes a mother to turn away from their child.
Anyway, the letter is beautiful and touched this mother’s heart.
Also, your book is right here waiting to be read, but I’m also a newish teacher trying to survive the first weeks of school with a middle schooler and a senior.
Thank you for your wonderful words that can inspire other teachers to not feel victim to hate and fear, and to unburden themselves of any second guessing that people who care about others can sometimes feel in situations like this. My son has been an amazing 6th grade teacher for over 20 years. I am sending him your letter and book. I am thankful that there are loving human beings in the world like you.
Thanks for letting us know. Your beautiful letter left her no place for blame. And she was not at the point in her journey that she had other skills to respond.
Pediatricians are noticing greater numbers of boys whose physical maturation is delayed, or does not occur at all, including lack of development of sexual organs. Learning disabilities, especially in male children, have reached epidemic proportions. Soy infant feeding—which floods the bloodstream with female hormones that could inhibit the effects of male hormones—cannot be ignored as a possible cause for these tragic developments.
As for girls, an alarming number are entering puberty much earlier than normal, according to a recent study reported in the journal Pediatrics.

“The truth is that no parent has ever strengthened their relationship with their child by hurting someone else.”
This is so powerful and something I needed to see today. The whole letter packs an emotional punch. Thank you for writing it.

She didn’t — never heard from her again

All very sweet and all that, but...
