I don’t have words after reading this. I’m a queer pastor, who is helping queer/trans/NB kids and parents navigate this hostile world. Thank you for sharing. It does help and makes a difference.

I'd say there's something seriously wrong with *you* mentally, Cynthia. Because you're constantly obsessed with trying to say Obama should be arrested or tried for treason and was only a good liar, and you think that Democrats are nothing but thieves and cruel people and you're so upset over nothing. And you're so obsessed with trying to show you're a perfect person. Yet in only two comments to someone giving care to a person hurting, all your flaws are shown right here. Please, you need to go get help, I'm worried genuinely. This doesn't seem healthy, to react with vitriol to someone giving sympathy.

There’s no such thing as a queer pastor.

This was hard to read. I know it was harder to live.

I was a special needs teacher for 35 years. I would like to say that I am surprised by your lack of support in your school and district, but I am not. I am very sorry that you had to deal with such awful behavior. Great teachers are so hard to find. One day, I hope that people will realize the harm they have caused with their narrow-mindedness and hate, unfortunately, I don't see it happening in the next 4 years. I do hope that you and your husband find the perfect place to make a home and get to have your own version of "happily ever after."

You deserved better. It is horrible that they refused to stand up and protect you and your students. Thanks for sharing your story, you are a voice for Queer teachers and students that are silenced.

I just got my copy and feel that it is a must read for all teachers. I’m working on getting it into our PD calendar.

Absolutely appalling. Words can't even begin to touch this. I am so sorry for what you have gone through. Despite how all this was clearly intended to make you feel afraid and isolated, you are never alone. Thank you for speaking the truth.

And yet every single day a "Christian" is arrested for child molestation or possession of child porn. And we have a fucking pedophile in the White House.

Wow, I can only imagine how scary, overwhelming, and heartbreaking this whole experience must have been. You deserved (and deserve) support, protection, and care. Not to mention appreciation for your efforts for your students and recognition of your humanity. 💜 I am so sorry your school failed to exercise the courage to stand with you.

This. Makes. Me. Furious. (And on a day when a regular Pickleball player at our park preached on the court today about the evils of homosexuality. There are at least a dozen of we LGBTQ folx who are regular players there.)

Dear heart! That was heartbreaking to read, I can only imagine the actual experience. Thank you for sharing. It is an honor to hold space and witness your journey through this. I too, went through something this year on a much smaller scale, but still shook me to the core about my position in my district and the community I had invested 12 years in. I am angry still at the reactions and complicity and silence of those in charge. They did more damage than they’ll ever know.

Those cowards don’t deserve you and the powerful work you did for those students. You are just moving into a bigger version of yourself.

Thank you so much for sharing - here, your book, and everywhere else you have re-opened your wounds for us and bled on the pages so we can see and hear what is going on in our country RIGHT NOW. I'm an NB midwesterner, fellow teacher-escapee, who also knows fully-well just how much our school system has changed in recent years. I see you, I hear you, I support you. You are not alone.
